Options Awarded $1.2 Million To Help People Experiencing Homelessness

The Long Island Continuum of Care (CoC), NY-603, was awarded more than $15 million in federal funding to create and/or continue programs serving homeless persons in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. All applications submitted by the Long Island CoC to HUD for consideration were fully funded. This included $1.2 million for Options for Community Living, Inc. for its Rapid Rehousing, Permanent Supportive Housing and Supportive Housing Subsidy Programs.

The CoC program is designed to promote a community-wide commitment to the goal of ending homelessness. The program is the largest source of federal grant funding for homeless services and housing programs serving people experiencing homelessness.

“The causes of homelessness vary but the most common are economic challenges, domestic violence, family issues, chronic health conditions, substance abuse, mental illness, PTSD, and a lack of affordable housing,” said Yolanda Robano-Gross, Options’ CEO.

“The people we help are often marginalized and isolated within the larger society. They lack resources and support systems making overcoming challenges that much more difficult. Through the CoC process, HUD delivers vital funding to support housing programs like ours and programs offered by other nonprofits on Long Island and across the country. These funds are essential to ending homelessness.”
