$21,000 Grant Supports Housing Services for Long Island’s Homeless

Options for Community Living, Inc. (Options) has received a $21,000 grant award from Newsday Charities. The grant will fund housing services for formerly homeless Long Islanders through Options’ Access to Care (ATC) supportive housing program.

Options operates 69 supportive housing sites across Long Island that provide safe, affordable housing for families and individuals in need. Last year, the program provided housing to more than 200 Long Islanders. The program boasts remarkably high tenant retention rates; current tenants average greater than five years of tenancy.

“Supportive housing provides secure, stable, quality accommodations and services to many populations who would otherwise end up in more expensive, institutional settings such as congregate shelters, prisons or public institutions,” said Yolanda Robano-Gross, Options’ Executive Director. “We are thankful for the continued support of Newsday Charities. This funding significantly impacts our ability to provide safe, affordable housing for the most vulnerable Long Islanders.”

The grant award from Newsday Charities will provide needed funding for housing services and maintenance. This includes accessing entitlements and resources, budgeting assistance, home safety checks, coordination of home repairs and more. These services are critical to program management, housing safety and tenant stability.
