Bethpage Cares for the Long Island Community

On Friday, June 14, 2019, nine employees from Bethpage Federal Credit Union spent the day gardening and painting at a home owned and operated by Options for Community Living, Inc.

“We are incredibly thankful to Bethpage Federal Credit Union for their support through volunteerism,” said Jessica Schwab, Options Development Assistant. “Everyone worked really hard and made significant improvements to the home.”

Options provides supportive housing for individuals and families at more than 160 homes scattered across Long Island. Supportive housing helps people with long histories of homelessness due to obstacles like serious mental illness, substance use disorders, or chronic medical conditions remain stably housed.  Homes are designed to blend seamlessly into the community.

“Our residents come to our program from difficult circumstances,” explained Schwab. “Many come from emergency shelters, transitional housing programs or places deemed unsuitable for human habitation. Our housing is a chance to start over in a stable environment where they can establish roots, improve their health, and see a future for their children.”

Bethpage is committed to providing low cost financial products and services to Long Islanders. They continue to make a difference in the communities they serve through charitable giving and community engagement encouraging their employees to be active members in their local communities and volunteer often.

“Our Bethpage Cares program which encompasses our Volunteer, Charitable Giving and Community Engagement efforts, takes pride in the fact that we enrich the lives in the communities that we serve,” said Katie Bielawski, Charitable Giving and Corporate Events Manager at Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
