Laura Pollak is an edtech innovator and K-12 data privacy and cybersecurity advocate. She protects student data as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for Nassau BOCES and supports Nassau County school districts’ educational technology, data privacy, and cybersecurity programs through Nassau RIC’s NASTECH & DPS services. Laura also supports school districts across NY State through several RIC One initiatives through leadership of the RIC One DPSS, and her work with the RIC One Cybersecurity Task Force and Risk Operations Center.
At the national level, Laura collaborates with national K-12 cybersecurity and edtech organizations. She is a contributing member of the K12 SIX Steering Committee, the CoSN Data Privacy Advisory Group, and the CoSN Driving EdTech Innovation Group. She also recently joined the GRF’s AI Security and Trust Working Group and facilitates programs for the University of Colorado Springs that support LGBTQ+ teens and supporters of marginalized people that had a violence experience.
Laura’s work is defined by her unique ability to blend advocacy, ethical technology integration, and data governance. She continually finds opportunities to partner with volunteer organizations that help people and animals in need. When she isn’t working or volunteering, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, and her two rescue dogs.
