Options Launches New Housing Opportunity For Adults With Mental Health And Chronic Medical Conditions

Options for Community Living, Inc. recently celebrated the opening of its new apartment treatment program for Suffolk County residents who are recovering from mental illness and chronic medical conditions. The new residence was developed through the support of the NYS Office of Mental Health, and it accommodates 12 adults in five shared apartments. Options’ on-site staff provide personalized rehabilitation and recovery services seven days a week in the new facility.

“In the beginning of the year, we began to transition program participants from a rented 12-bed congregate community residence setting into their new apartments,” said Yolanda Robano-Gross, executive director, Options for Community Living. “This new facility was created to assist people who have both physical and mental health needs – a rising trend and concern as our population ages.” The agency even was able to accommodate one resident in the new apartment facility who otherwise would have been relocated to a nursing home.

“The apartment building is just magnificent. One resident told me that she felt like she ‘won the lottery!’” described Robano-Gross. “It is an honor to be able to help these individuals in need have a special place to call home as they recover from their illnesses.”
