JoAnne Shapiro

JoAnne Shapiro, originally from Chicago, Illinois, has been a member of the Options Board since 2006, during which time she served as Board secretary for six years. Having graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor’s degree in Public Health and Health education, JoAnne then attended the University of Michigan where she received her Master’s in Public Health degree, focused on Maternal and Child Health and community health education. Her work in the public health arena as an educator, researcher, and administrator provided valuable insights into her involvement, understanding, and commitment to Options for Community Living, Inc. Upon moving to New York, JoAnne shifted professional gears and became a K-12 Religious School principal. Once again, her administrative and educational training came into play, but front and foremost were the valuable and life-altering interactions she had with students and their families. JoAnne and her husband Marc have been happily married for 45 years. They have two married sons who live with their families in the Boston area. She currently is the Suffolk Region President of Hadassah, the largest women’s Zionist organization in America. JoAnne enjoys traveling, cooking, and distance walking and is extremely proud to be associated with the Options team.
